How does one of the oldest pre-secondary schools in the country, especially a majestic Carrere and Hastings historic building, rank among the top schools nationwide for energy efficiency? Just ask Tuxedo Park School Headmaster James Burger who is leading students at this 110 year old school every step of the way to developing an improved carbon footprint. The school, which received an Energy Star rating in 2008, took yet another big step in its quest for “Green” with the dedication of a solar panel system designed to provide nearly 30% of the school’s energy.

Solar Energy Systems, LLC (SES), Designs and Installs the Largest Multiunit Residential PV System in New York City
Having earned original acclaim for world-renowned architect I.M. Pei’s innovative use of cast-in-place exposed concrete, the distinctly modern design of Kips Bay Towers stood in stark contrast to the traditionally brick facades that had come to dominate many cityscapes of the 1960’s. Now, under the management of Cooper Square Realty and in partnership with Solar Energy Systems, LLC (SES), Kips Bay has distinguished itself once again. The 1,120 unit property has installed the largest multi-family residential solar array in New York City, a 54.28 kW DC solar photovoltaic (PV) system, which is now located atop the 20 story towers.
